Coalición Canaria Lanzarote demands that the acting president, Pedro Sánchez, and the PSOE "assume their responsibilities once and for all" and, taking advantage of the Spanish presidency of the European Union, "take the reins and apply all the measures that are necessary so that the waters of Lanzarote cease to be the cemetery" of those who board a boat in search of a better life.

Measures, such as those that the senator for the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, Pedro San Ginés, will propose this Tuesday, that "oblige to include the Canary route" in the European migration plan announced by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. “Every day that passes the situation worsens. While in Madrid all the attention is focused on whether the president will be Sánchez or Feijóo, in Lanzarote the number of dead and missing is increasing”, says the island secretary of CC Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín.

“The data from the last few hours is chilling,” says the nationalist leader. “Seven people are still missing after a boat sank 78 km from the island and about 300 have
managed to reach our coasts with the sole objective of achieving a better life, which they will not find.” The nationalists, who do not understand why time continues to pass without the necessary measures being applied to deal with the increase in migration in the Islands, urge all political parties to sign a true commitment “to end a situation that only leaves a trail of desolation.”

For his part, the island secretary of Organization, Echedey Eugenio, insists that the Canary route is "one of the most dangerous routes in the world and does not understand the lack of interest and solution on the part of the competent authorities."

“I don’t know how they want all these people to be treated with dignity if we don’t have the infrastructure for it. I don't know how someone can sleep soundly when so many corpses weigh on their conscience,” he said.

“We need resources and measures, but also an extra dose of humanity"

The nationalist leader emphasizes that neither Spain nor Europe can "continue to close their eyes to the migratory drama" that the Canary Islands in general and Lanzarote in particular are experiencing. “We need resources and measures, but also an extra dose of humanity. It is your responsibility. We must act now”, he said.
