The spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition in the Tías City Council does not understand how the mayor, José Juan Cruz, and his government group can be proud of their management “when they have the most basic things more and more destroyed every day.” Amado Vizcaíno points to the playgrounds throughout the municipality, "whose condition does not guarantee the safety of the little ones."
“It is curious that at the entrance of each of them there is a sign with recommendations to prevent users from becoming infected with Covid, when there should be one that says ¡Caution, dangerous and poorly maintained area!”, says the councilman who, assures, “it feels like they want our kids to prepare to participate in the Hunger Games, facing all kinds of infections and injuries.”
Vizcaíno recalls that playgrounds have always been in high demand by families in the municipality and that in the past term it was even possible to be the first municipality with a play area on the beach.
“We made a very important investment and worked to modernize the entire network of playgrounds in the rural areas of Tías and Puerto del Carmen to adapt it to European Union regulations, with approved attractions and rubber or grass floors, replacing the volcanic gravel that covered many of these areas throughout the island,” he says.

However, the councilman points out, "nowadays, the maintenance of these areas is conspicuous by its absence and pieces of said rubber appear floating in the sea, while the holes in the floor of the corresponding play area can remain for months without the City Council repairing it."
“They must be waiting for an accident to happen and we have to regret some misfortune to take action on the matter,” emphasizes Vizcaíno, who appeals to those responsible for the southern Consistory to “listen to and address the needs of our neighbors and not wait to do so when there is a month left for the elections.”
