The spokesperson for the Nationalist Group (CC-PNC) in the Tías City Council, Amado Vizcaíno, has requested the southern Consistory to urge the Island Council to extend the hours of the bus lines that run through the municipality "and return to the one that existed before the start of the pandemic."
"During this last year, schedules have been limited on many lines due to the lack of tourists and the closure of tourist businesses, as direct causes of Covid-19, have considerably reduced the volume of passengers, especially workers in the tourism sector who used these lines in the afternoon, evening and night; but it is about time that this also adapts to the reality that we are experiencing," Vizcaíno considers.
In this way, he emphasizes that "little by little the health situation has been improving and, therefore, those businesses that have not permanently closed down are reopening." "And although we are still far from the volume before the pandemic, there has been an increase in people who need the bus to return to their homes once their working day is over," says the CC spokesperson in the Tías City Council.
In this regard, Vizcaíno adds that "we must not forget that public transport is an essential public service dependent on the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa", so he considers it "essential" that the Consistory presided over by the socialist José Juan Cruz urges the Cabildo to request the concessionaire company to extend the hours to be able to provide coverage to all workers and users in general, who need public transport to be able to make their transfers from Puerto del Carmen to Tías and Arrecife.
"We understand that as an essential public service, said service should be prioritized and not only the economic profitability of the different routes. There are many workers who use public transport and cannot spend two hours waiting at the stop. The PSOE stands as a defender of public services while acting against them," emphasizes the spokesperson for the Nationalist Group in the Tías City Council.
