The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved the signing of a general protocol of action with Casa África with the aim of establishing a framework for collaboration for the development of cultural, literary, and training activities at the Insular Library of Lanzarote. The initiative will allow the incorporation of proposals related to the cultural, social, and intellectual reality of the African continent into the programming of this space.

The agreement includes the organization of book presentations, meetings with authors, conferences, exhibitions, film series, concerts, and other activities aimed at bringing African cultural diversity closer to citizens from a contemporary perspective. It also includes training and professional cooperation actions in the library field.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that “Lanzarote maintains a historical, geographical, and human relationship with Africa that we must continue to strengthen through knowledge and culture. This protocol will allow us to bring new voices, experiences, and cultural expressions closer to citizens, expanding the offerings of the Insular Library and generating spaces for meeting and reflection.”

For her part, the Minister of Education and head of the Insular Library, Ascensión Toledo, pointed out that “this agreement opens new opportunities to enrich the cultural programming of the Insular Library with activities of great interest for students, readers, researchers, and the general public. We want this space to continue to be a reference point for access to knowledge and cultural exchange.”

Casa África is a public consortium made up of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, the Government of the Canary Islands, and the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, whose work focuses on strengthening relations between Spain and African countries through initiatives of public diplomacy, cooperation, and cultural dissemination.
