The spokesman and Minister of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, Julio Pérez, announced this Thursday that the regional Executive plans to make changes "necessary and useful" in the orders that regulate the rules of coexistence in the face of the coronavirus pandemic and has admitted that they are considering requiring masks "in some situations where it is not required today."
Pérez made this nuance after emphasizing during the press conference after the Governing Council that masks in the Canary Islands "are mandatory" when the safety distance is not met, admitting that "the bad thing is when people pile up." In any case, he pointed out that it is an issue that the government team should discuss next Monday after a proposal from Public Health.
"It is possible that in some situations where the mask is not required today, it will be established, it does not seem that the requirement should be generalized in open places because it is not perceived. What we have to do is find a way to act in the drinking parties, in family parties," he added. Currently, the Canary Islands is the only community that has not declared the mandatory use of masks in any circumstance, and only maintains the obligation to use them when the interpersonal distance cannot be respected.
The spokesman for the Government of the Canary Islands stressed that "it is worrying" the compliance with the rules mainly in closed spaces, celebrations such as drinking parties and family parties, areas in which it is where "the hygiene rules, the capacity" are least complied with, since in open spaces he considered that "in general it is complied with."
Therefore, he stressed that they want to "improve" the rules and, if possible, "simplify" them in terms of making them "clearer, more eligible and controllable" also so that the police can have "more ease" to enforce the rules. "Young people, families, closed venues, this worries us a lot, more than going out on the street and seeing that out of 100 people, 4 are not wearing a mask," he added.
Finally, he stated that they have "many complaints" in the field of restoration in that there are some that comply and others that do not.
