The Lanzarote Council will cooperate with the island's town councils in improving the well-being of the most vulnerable groups through the constitution of the new Social Action and Seniors Board of Lanzarote.
The Minister of Social Welfare, Marciano Acuña, indicated that this body will be of a technical-political nature, with the aim of bringing together the visions of public representatives and staff from the various administrations involved, and will hold meetings on a bimonthly basis.
Marci Acuña stressed that various issues were addressed, such as that of unaccompanied migrant minors, involving the town councils in the Cabildo's strategy of sizing the La Santa centre so that the first reception is not there.
The councillor led the first meeting of the Board, which was also attended by the councillor for the Elderly and Intergenerational Relations Area, Nori Machín, as well as representatives of the Lanzarote town councils.
On the other hand, Acuña conveyed the intention to improve the home service for dependent people thanks to the acquisition of articulated beds that allow to improve the care of these, making them available to the town councils.
In the same line, the planned deadlines to carry out the insularised home help service were detailed, which is expected to be put out to tender before the end of the year, with the aim of having it up and running in 2024.
In terms of Dependency, the councillor also explained the upcoming tender for a personal autonomy promotion service, which will seek to slow down the deterioration processes of the elderly through the intervention of specialised personnel.
In addition, Nori Machín explained to those present the ambitious project of active ageing and intergenerational relations that is intended to be carried out from the Cabildo, in cooperation with the town councils, with the purpose that the elderly have a wide variety of activities during the year, which will result in the physical and emotional health of these.
In the short term, on 11 September, an meeting of elderly people will be held within the framework of the Fiestas de Los Dolores and, at the beginning of October, an meeting to commemorate the Day of the Elderly.
