The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Diocese of the Canary Islands will restore the modernist house of Luis Ramírez in Caleta de Famara to put it to use as a socio-cultural center. This was announced by the first institution of the island, which this Tuesday signed a framework collaboration agreement with the vicar general of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, Hipólito Cabrera González, for the protection, conservation and restoration of assets of cultural and/or listed interest owned by the Church located in Lanzarote.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, who was accompanied by the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Carmen Rosa Márquez, explained during the signing of the agreement that "beyond creeds or religious criteria, it is about protecting and conserving the rich architectural heritage and the patrimonial and cultural assets that the Diocese treasures on the island of Lanzarote".

Among the first actions that are intended to be undertaken, San Ginés highlighted the restoration of the house of Luis Ramírez in Caleta de Famara. "A building of modernist style and of great architectural value that is currently in an advanced state of deterioration." This property, owned by the Diocese and located in the coastal town of Famara, "is also intended to be put into service and use as a socio-cultural center", announced the president.
The Diocese will draft the projects and take charge of the execution
Through this framework agreement, with a validity of two years and the possibility of extension, the necessary action plans for the restoration and conservation of this ecclesiastical heritage will be implemented, executing conservation and maintenance works on the movable and immovable property owned by the Diocese that hold the category of BIC, or that have an initiation file, or have been cataloged and/or are of patrimonial interest. It also contemplates the realization of joint actions aimed at the dissemination and access of the population to them.
The vicar detailed, for his part, that "the Diocese of the Canary Islands will take charge of drafting the restoration and conservation projects and of the direction and execution of the works, and the Cabildo of Lanzarote will collaborate with a nominated subsidy destined to the restoration and conservation of these patrimonial and architectural assets". He also informed that this type of framework collaboration agreements have been signed previously with other island councils of the archipelago.
A monitoring committee will be created for the correct execution of the works
For the correct execution and monitoring of the works and maintenance of these assets, a monitoring committee will be created consisting of representatives of the Diocese and technicians from the Historical Heritage and Public Works departments of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, according to the institution.
This proposal has been processed by the Historical Heritage Service, "whose agreement was approved with the pertinent favorable reports by the Governing Council of March 15".
