Ciudadanos (Cs) has demanded this Friday "the resignation of the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and of the Island Water Council, Pedro San Ginés (CC)", after it has become known that the judge has initiated the procedures to bring him to trial and that there are indications, according to the formation, of "alleged crimes of administrative malfeasance and coercion for the seizure of the Montaña Roja desalination plant".

This was stated by the Cs councilor in the island corporation, Benjamín Perdomo, who has also asked President San Ginés to "step aside once and for all from this judicial process full of contradictions in which justice has been proving him wrong time and time again", since "he himself ordered the seizure of the desalination plant without having the necessary powers and using arguments devoid of logic".

C's's request has been made after learning that the head of the Court of Instruction Number 2 of Arrecife, Jerónimo Alonso, has closed the investigation of the criminal case opened for the seizure of this desalination plant and has done so concluding that there are indications of a crime to bring the president of the Cabildo to trial, as well as the secretary of the Corporation, Francisco Perdomo, the former manager of the Water Council, José Juan Hernández Duchemín, and the lawyer Ignacio Calatayud. Regarding the president of the Cabildo, the order dated July 19 states that "it can be considered indicatively proven that the investigated, Pedro San Ginés Gutiérrez, in his capacity as president of the Island Water Council, carried out his personal will, departing from the law".

In this sense, Perdomo has stated that "it is shameful that the people of Lanzarote are paying for his mismanagement, his neglect and his stubbornness in defending the indefensible in court", a fact that is "even more regrettable to know that he could have allegedly committed several crimes in the case of Montaña Roja".

For all these reasons, the Cs councilor has invited Mr. San Ginés to "formally submit his resignation", and has asked the PSOE, CC's government partner in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, to "start making decisions and stop keeping in office a reckless president who continues to have problems with justice".
