The Arrecife City Council and the workers of Guaguas Municipales
reached an initial agreement this Friday morning, suspending the strike scheduled for next Monday, September 27. In this regard, the Strike Committee has highlighted the "good predisposition" of the Transport Councilor, Lorenzo Lemaur, and has decided to continue with the normal operation of the service. Lemaur, who has positively assessed the suspension of the strike, recalls that the current capital corporation is trying to resolve issues "inherited" from other governments.
In the agreement reached between both parties, the members of the
Strike Committee also undertake to inform the workers of the proposal made by the Transport Councilor regarding the payment of outstanding overtime. In this way, the bus drivers will have to decide whether they want to collect them or replace them with days off. In the event that they decide to collect them, Lemaur proposes full payment in the payroll corresponding to the month of October.
Likewise, the capital city councilor proposes the hiring of a bus
driver, "as long as it is necessary", in order to avoid
the performance of overtime in subsequent months.
Other issues on which both parties agree are the cleaning of the premises where the bus staff provide services and the vehicles themselves, as well as the repairs to the air conditioning of the same. In this regard, the Transport Councilor will go to the municipal bus facilities on Tuesday accompanied by a City Council technician to find a solution to the demands of the bus drivers.
Lemaur explained that the Council is working on resolving
these shortcomings for months, although he clarified that these problems
"inherited" are not resolved from one day to the next.
