The deputy for Lanzarote and La Graciosa of the Canarian Nationalist Group, Oswaldo Betancort, has registered a new question addressed to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, given the lack of personnel at the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IMLCF), which he assures is causing "intolerable delays, as denounced by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) itself."

Oswaldo Betancort will raise orally in Parliament a question that affects "the proper functioning of the only Comprehensive Forensic Assessment Unit for Gender Violence in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura." "Due to the precariousness of the staff and the consequent effect on sensitive procedures in cases of violence against women, with delays of up to two and a half years in the drafting of reports, which are essential for the protection of victims and affected minors," Betancort points out.

The nationalist points out that according to sources in the judicial field, at this time "no file is being processed, as the lack of personnel does not allow other professionals from the IMLCF to take on the work", considering this situation as a "very serious affectation of fundamental rights."

Betancort affirms that he will listen to the response of the head of Health in Parliament in order to know "what is being done so that the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Las Palmas has the necessary personnel to solve this pressing social problem and offer the proper provision of a public service to tackle violence against women, as well as ensure the protection of children and measures on custody and guardianship."
