The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, announced last Monday that she will demand the modification of the Supplementary General Urban Planning Plan from the Government of the Canary Islands, prepared by the public company Gesplan, to "defend the interests of the residents of Güime."

Specifically, the Arrecife Government group will demand the modification of the category, changing from environmentally protected rustic land to common rustic land on the Güime road, a topic that was discussed directly with about fifty residents, as well as the Councilor for Urban Planning, Eduardo Placeres, and municipal technicians during the meeting.

“We have always defended, since the first meeting of the Monitoring Commission of the Supplementary Plan, the interests of all the residents of the city who are affected by the urban planning of the Supplementary Plan, and in relation to the Güime road, we have demanded the modification of the land category from environmentally protected rustic land to common rustic land,” said Mayor Astrid Pérez.

In this regard, at the last presentation meeting of the Supplementary General Urban Planning Plan, on February 22, the mayor expressed, and it is recorded in the minutes of the meeting, her disagreement with the change of criteria of the Department of Territorial Planning, which, contrary to what was proposed by the City Council in previous meetings, re-categorized the land of the Güime road as landscape protection.

For his part, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Eduardo Placeres, added that the City Council has already approved in plenary, and unanimously, “the renewal of the cooperation agreement with the Department of Ecological Transition, to which the public company Gesplan is attached, for the preparation of the Supplementary Plan and, therefore, there is a deadline for its approval until December 2024.”
