The Arrecife City Council removed, throughout the year 2021, a total of 263 abandoned vehicles from the streets of the capital, after the files opened by the City Council, with the aim of "ending the bad image and pollution of these cars in the city."

From the City Council they detail that of the total number of vehicles, 126 were removed by their owners after the sanction files were opened, while another 53 were removed by the City Council to the Treatment Center for their destruction, without identification of their owner. In addition, another 24 were destroyed in the Treatment Center with the authorization of the vehicle owner, and, as of December 31, 2021, there are 60 vehicles that are filed and pending removal.

“I ask for the collaboration of all citizens to combat and avoid this situation that causes pollution and inconvenience to the residents of Arrecife. We are also the capital of the Biosphere Reserve and the image of abandoned cars is not permissible,” said Mayor Astrid Pérez.

“Last December we awarded the company Celestino Pérez Hernández the service of removing abandoned vehicles in deposit and on public roads, decontamination and dismantling, as well as the removal of tires and their treatment”, recalls the Councilor for Infractions, Eli Merino.

The contract with this company includes the removal of vehicles from public roads and from the deposit, and delivering them to the Authorized Treatment Centers. It also contemplates the procedure to document the delivery with the destruction certificate and process the cancellation at the General Directorate of Traffic.
