The Department of Cleaning of the Arrecife City Council, led by Jacobo Lemes, continues to advance in its plan to modernize urban cleaning with the recent installation of 30 two-compartment bins, designed for the selective collection of waste.

The new units have been strategically placed next to the city's 26 schools and institutes, as well as at the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital (2 units), the Valterra Health Center (1) and the Titerroy Health Center (1), with the aim of promoting the correct disposal of waste in areas of high daily influx.

“These bins allow us to separate waste and significantly improve collection capacity in highly trafficked areas. We are taking firm steps towards a cleaner, more modern and environmentally responsible Arrecife,” said Jacobo Lemes, Councilor for Cleaning.

Although they maintain the aesthetics and dimensions of the bins installed in March —Omega 120L model—, these new units incorporate two interior compartments of 60 liters each, differentiated by the inclusion of a yellow side panel that indicates its shared function. This system favors the selective collection of waste such as paper/cardboard and light packaging, promoting recycling habits among citizens.

In addition, its installation responds to the requirements established by the new legislation on selective collection.

“Our commitment is firm: to transform Arrecife into a cleaner, more modern city adapted to current environmental challenges. We will continue to renovate street furniture to respond to the real needs of our neighbors,” adds Lemes.

The Omega 120L two-compartment bins are made of linear polyethylene and comply with accessibility standards. Its ergonomic and textured design prevents vandalism and facilitates its integration into the urban environment. They also have an interior bucket divided into two and an input opening located 900 mm from the ground, which improves its use.
