The Arrecife City Council continues to offer financial aid to university students who, residing in the capital municipality, are pursuing higher education outside the island of Lanzarote. The new transport aid for the current academic year 2020/2021 has been convened. The aid has a budget allocation of 200,000 euros.
The Arrecife City Council published in the BOP (Official Gazette of the Province), last Friday, February 26, 2021, the official call for aid to university students, residents in the municipality, who are pursuing their higher education outside of Lanzarote.
The Education Area, under the direction of Councilor Saro González Perdomo, has increased this item from the 170,000 euros allocated in 2017, 2018 and 2019 to 200,000 euros in the past year, and which is maintained for the current academic year, with another 200,000 euros.
With this aid, which will allow each university student to receive up to 350 euros, the Arrecife City Council intends to contribute to the travel expenses of these students, residents in the municipality of Arrecife, and who are pursuing regulated university studies or intermediate or higher level training cycles or others, in centers whose headquarters are not located in Lanzarote.
The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, has highlighted "that given the situation of many families in this 2021, still burdened by the pandemic, the Government group has reinforced aid in social and student matters." Therefore, "the municipal budgets continue to reinforce this amount, increasing the items for university students, and also the aid for families for school supplies, which has been 200 euros per registered son or daughter, and which were paid at the end of last December." Now, the first mayor recalls, "from public institutions the economic effort must be greater to continue helping families."
The Department of Education, under the direction of the popular councilor Saro González, intends to grant aid to more than 500 families whose children are pursuing regulated, non-compulsory education outside the island corresponding to the academic year 2020-2021, an academic year that is subject to the vicissitudes of the pandemic caused by covid 19.
