The Arrecife City Council has joined the collaboration and coordination protocol between the State Security Forces and Corps and the Local Police Corps, for the protection of victims of domestic and gender violence.
This measure is the previous step for the constitution of the future Police Coordination Table on gender violence in Arrecife, within the Local Security Board, which will be integrated by the Family Care Service, the Prevention, Support and Protection Unit of the National Police Corps, the Local Police, the care resources and the Unit against violence against women of the Insular Directorate of the General State Administration (AGE).
The formal act held in the Department of Social Services of the Consistory was attended by the insular director of the General State Administration, Orlando Suárez, the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, and the councilors of Security and Social Services, Cristina Marrero and Carmen Sáez, respectively, as well as the head of the Unit against violence against women of the Insular Directorate of the AGE, who made a presentation of the document and its objectives.
As Orlando Suárez pointed out, the purpose of this protocol is to "establish the basic criteria for collaboration and coordination that allow optimizing the human and material resources of the Security Forces and Corps existing in the municipality of Arrecife, to guarantee the effective fulfillment of judicial protection measures for victims of gender violence".
Suárez expressed the importance and necessity of the constitution of the Police Coordination Tables in this matter, congratulated the City Council for the initiative, positively valued the work that has been carried out in Lanzarote and gave examples of similar experiences in other municipalities of the Island and the Canary Islands.
For his part, the mayor Cándido Reguera assured that with this protocol the City Council "reinforces the necessary social and institutional involvement to face a problem that affects us all, men and women." Likewise, Reguera requested the collaboration "of the environments of the abusers so that they reject their behaviors and do not feed their macho beliefs" and invited the women of Arrecife to go to the existing resources to support them and help them in their recovery. "Our purpose is to improve security in the municipality of Arrecife with the common goal of solving the problems of citizens," explained the mayor.
Greater speed in situations of risk
The protocol, with the collaboration between the State Security Forces and Corps and the Local Police of Arrecife, will provide victims with a police response "more quickly and effectively in situations of risk" with the maximum "sensitivity, quality and efficiency in the care and protection of victims, avoiding duplication of interventions.
It is ultimately about providing the victim with clear and accessible information about their rights, contained in Organic Law 1/2004, of December 29, on comprehensive protection measures against gender violence, as well as the Security Forces and Corps of all relevant information for the protection of women who may be suffering abuse.
