Pedro Almodóvar and Penélope Cruz arrived in Lanzarote these days and took advantage of the weekend to do some tests on Famara beach, where the film director took several photographs of the Spanish actress. This week the filming of Broken Embraces, the latest film by the director from La Mancha, an Oscar winner, starring Penélope Cruz, will begin on the Island of Volcanoes.
The technical team and most of the artists are expected to arrive in Lanzarote tomorrow. According to sources from the organization informed Efe, filming on the island is scheduled to last for more than two weeks. Recordings will be made at points previously located by Almodóvar in his recent visits to the island, where the director is filming for the first time.
Janubio beach, Timanfaya National Park and the charco de Los Clicos (El Golfo), in the south of the island, or the coast of Famara under the cliffs of the North and Caletón Blanco, a beach located near the fishing village of Órzola, are some of the landscapes that will be captured on the film.
Sources from the Cabildo of Lanzarote confirmed that one of the scenes in the film will consist of a car chase around the island, which will also run through several emblematic landscapes, such as the volcanic area of Tinguatón or the wine-growing area of La Geria.
They added that this scene will end with the simulation of a traffic accident at the roundabout located in the town of Tahíche, next to the César Manrique Foundation, that is, in the same place where the Lanzarote artist César Manrique also died in a car accident.
One of the love scenes, in which the actress Penélope Cruz will participate, will be filmed in the house of Las Torrecillas, in the municipality of Haría, whose interior has been specially decorated for the occasion.
Almodóvar's production company organized a 'casting' in Lanzarote in its day, which was attended by 690 people, of whom 150 were selected as extras to participate in the scenes that will be filmed on Famara Beach, in the municipality of Teguise, where a landscape from the early nineties of the last century will be set.
