The president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, has announced the discovery of a "pleasant surprise" of "many millions of euros" in the accounts of Eólicas de Lanzarote, a company in which Inalsa is the main shareholder. San Ginés did not want to provide many details on this aspect, since he "did not want to step on" the joint press conference with Canal Gestión Lanzarote, now the concessionaire of the service, after its privatization. Thus, when asked about the exact amount, he limited himself to answering that it is "many millions of euros".
"We have found pleasant surprises. We knew we would have some, but not of that magnitude," insisted the president, who assured that Eólicas de Lanzarote "had not distributed profits for many years", despite having "huge profits".
With these funds found and with the fee that Canal Gestión Lanzarote will pay, of just over half a million euros per year, San Ginés has assured that "at least wind farms" will be undertaken. "We have a self-consumption wind farm for many years that has not moved. We intend to build one from the Insular Water Consortium immediately," said the president. And this park, in his opinion, will cause savings that will revert to Canal Gestión Lanzarote.
Other funds
The accounts of Eólicas de Lanzarote formed part of "the income statements of Inalsa", according to the president, and will not be part of Canal Gestión Lanzarote since this "was not included in the tender". "It is a company whose control is fully recovered by the Consortium", he indicated.
Likewise, the president has assured that "there are more funds and important items in deposits" of Inalsa, which were excluded from the tender won by Canal Gestión Lanzarote to take charge of the integral water cycle on the island and in La Graciosa. These funds will allow the Consortium to "undertake investments in energy matters in the coming years".
The president has assured that next week he will offer a press conference to give more details about the "millions of euros" in the accounts of Eólicas de Lanzarote and the funds of Inalsa. "They are extraordinary news", he has valued.
