ASKS HIS COLLEAGUES TO RECTIFY AND QUESTIONS THE "MORAL DAMAGE" CAUSED

A seventh association distances itself from the joint statement and comes out in defense of Sergeant Moreno

Independientes de la Guardia Civil states that the spokesperson of one of the associations that criticized the defense campaign for the Seprona sergeant in Lanzarote was the "promoter" of two of the files against her.

The controversy over the files opened against the Seprona sergeant in Lanzarote, Gloria Moreno, continues to grow. A new association of the Benemérita, Independientes de la Guardia Civil, has come to the fore this Thursday to support Moreno and to question the statement sent the previous day by six other associations, in which they asked for an end to the "intolerable pressures and interferences" that were being received in the processing of these files.

In its statement, the association to which the sergeant belongs begins by expressing "the most absolute respect" to the other associations, but then states that the captain of Seprona, who appears as the promoter of two of the disciplinary reports to Moreno that were later filed, is a member of one of the associations that signed the joint press release. Therefore, it considers that "the use of the aforementioned union of associations for an objective that could be considered personal" has been "exposed".

"From IGC we consider relevant the union of associations in order to achieve common benefits and general interest, as was the recent fight for salary equalization and always respecting the will and interests of our associates, something that is better not to remember, but in the case at hand, we cannot at least doubt that the members whom the signatory associations represent are aware of or have had the opportunity to speak out," they argue.

Questions that no association has filed a complaint

In addition, contrary to what was stated by the other six associations, IGC believes that neither the report published this week by the newspaper El País on the situation of the sergeant nor the statements sent in recent weeks by environmental groups and associations in defense of the sergeant constitute "an attack on the image of the institution".

"The statement demands respect for the professional image and honorability of the Civil Guard officers of Seprona on the island of Lanzarote, when the press release of discord enhances this service even more," they say. Similarly, they point out that it is "striking the absence of any complaint" by any of the signatory associations, despite the fact that in their note they state that "statements alien to the truth" have been issued and published in the media and that they consider the "trust" of society in the institution to be "damaged" "by particular interests".

In addition, the association to which the sergeant belongs also highlights the news known this Thursday, that the veterinarian of the municipal kennel of Arrecife has retracted the complaint he filed against Gloria Moreno, requesting that the judicial proceedings that had been opened be filed. In this regard, they recall that a complaint from this same veterinarian motivated one of the internal files that the sergeant has open.

Stresses that there are files that have already been archived

"From IGC and in view of the events and with the utmost respect for the instruction of the sanctioning procedures, which, by the way, and like the complaint of the veterinarian are being filed, existing in the Canary archipelago problems of real significance, social impact and affectation to the institution, such as the improvement of both human and material resources as well as the high rate of absenteeism and suicides that concern both citizens and the institution itself, we consider a gratuitous, disproportionate and certainly not shared attack by the components of the same that these associations represent, towards a professional of professional curriculum voice populi exemplary," they say.

In addition, they conclude by thanking the majority association of the Civil Guard, the AUGC, "for its support, consideration and respect in not supporting the statement" signed by the other six associations. "Having for sure the ignorance and disapproval of its members of what in their name have signed their representatives in the statement of July 4, 2018, as well as the moral damage generated leaving without corporate support as a companion to Sergeant Gloria Moreno, from IGC we believe that these associations should retract what is referred to in the statement of reference," they conclude.
