The population of El Hierro felt in the early morning of the 11th an earthquake of magnitude 4.6, which caused some landslides on the Cumbre road, as reported by the Government of the Canary Islands through its website. The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has located this tremor at 00:20 hours, northwest of Frontera, 21 kilometers deep. The intensity has been IV-V, according to the same sources.
This movement, which has been widely felt by the population, has only caused some landslides on the Cumbre road, at the height of the Los Castaños curve. One lane has been closed to traffic due to this incident, although at 2:00 a.m. normality was restored on this road.
Also, according to provisional data from the IGN, during this early morning from Sunday to Monday two more earthquakes felt by the population have been recorded. One occurred at 0:32 hours, with magnitude 2.8; and at 5:30 hours, 3.1 degrees on the Richter scale.
In total, since midnight 19 tremors have been felt, located at a depth of between 17 and 22 kilometers, all in Frontera.
