The wastewater that formed a huge pool in Argana Alta, caused by the breakage of one of the elbows of the sewage pipes, has finally disappeared completely. However, the bad smell is still noticeable in the surroundings of the pumping station, even moving to the San Francisco Javier neighborhood. “We have been keeping our windows closed for several days,” complains a resident of this neighborhood.

Canal Gestión maintains that “the breakdown has already been resolved”, as La Voz reported, after placing concrete on the old sewage pipes. In fact, they confirm that “the pumping station is already working”, after having solved the problem.

Regarding the criticism for the time it took to remove the sewage from the area, the company has avoided commenting, pointing to the Water Consortium as responsible, stating that it is the “in charge of carrying out those tasks.”

In addition, it has not clarified whether there is a relationship between the breakdown in Argana and the discharges that were detected at the end of last week in Charco de San Ginés and in the Punta del Camello area, denounced by Lanzarote en Pie and even by the Arrecife City Council. "I don't know", they have limited themselves to pointing out from the Canal press office.

Unbearable odors for the residents of the area

“It was a terrible smell”, says a resident of Maneje, very close to the area where the spills occurred. A worker from a nearby cafeteria says that “the smell did not enter her premises”, probably due to the direction of the wind, although she did notice it as she approached the area. However, she maintains that workers from more distant shops, near the exit of the capital in the direction of San Bartolomé, “did notice a strong stench.”

In addition, the bad smell moved to the surrounding neighborhoods, reaching the hospital area and other neighborhoods in the city. “I would like to know who is responsible for this smell not having been removed after so many days”, complains a neighbor.
