The Malvasía Semidulce and Malvasía Dulce wines from the Lanzarote-based El Grifo wineries received scores of around 85 points in the last edition of the VIII Bacchus 2008 International Wine Competition held in Madrid from March 14 to 18. Therefore, both wines were awarded the Bacchus de Plata award along with another 298 wines.
In this Bacchus 2008 International Wine Competition, organized by the Spanish Union of Tasters under the auspices of the International Organization of Vine and Wine, a total of 1,683 wines from the main wine-producing countries in the world participated, of which 505 wines were awarded divided into three categories: the 10 Great Gold Bacchus (between 95 and 100 points), the 195 Gold Bacchus (90 points) and the 300 Silver Bacchus (85 points). Of the 1,683 participating wines, the majority of the winners, a total of 448, are Spanish wines.
The event, which was sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the International Union of Oenologists, is part of the World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits Competitions (VINOFED), and brings together the 10 largest competitions of these characteristics worldwide, which consolidates its international importance.
This edition has had more than 80 professional tasters from 17 countries around the world.
At Bodegas El Grifo, satisfied with this recognition, they point out that they are "aware of the importance of promoting the quality of their wines, as well as the great importance of the medals that are of great international knowledge and recognition".
