The high temperatures recorded this Saturday were no obstacle for the residents of the town of Tahíche to leave their homes to participate in the pilgrimage offering to their patron saint Santiago Apóstol. At 6:30 p.m., the pilgrimage departed from the vicinity of the church to take an extensive tour of the town's main streets.
As soon as it started, the songs performed by the Los Valles, Coros y Danzas San Ginés and the Tahíche folklore school groups began to be heard, as well as the colorfulness of the dances offered by the Guayadeque folklore groups, who came from Carrisal de Ingenio in Gran Canaria, and Guagime, from Tahíche, during the tour.
In addition to some revelers who joined the entourage on their own, the decorated carts pulled by donkeys were also present. The horse lovers also wanted to be present with some beautiful specimens, as well as some striking ponies.
Throughout the tour, the pilgrims offered visitors all kinds of handmade pastries from sponge cake, donuts, mimos and muffins, not forgetting the kneaded gofio, the pejines, the donuts, the odd boiled egg and the Lanzarote wine.
Back at the church, the patron saint Santiago Apóstol was waiting to receive the offerings from all those who wanted to collaborate by bringing non-perishable products. The parish priest of Teguise, Antonio Juan López, stated that they will be allocated to Calor y Café and Cáritas Parroquiales.
After the offering, everyone moved to the socio-cultural center of Tahíche to participate in the romero dance, which lasted until well into the early morning with great animation from all the participants.
