The Ministry of Health attended a total of 154,572 external consultations during 2007 at the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote. According to data provided by the Lanzarote Health Services Management, this is 5.86% more than those registered in the same period of the previous year. Of the total number of consultations, 48,892 were first consultations.

The healthcare activity of the Lanzarote Hospital has been increased in recent years due to the strong population growth experienced on the island, an increase that has gone hand in hand with the development of the Hospital's own infrastructure. Since 2004, the activity of External Consultations has experienced an increase of 66.47 percent and surgical activity of 19.97 percent.

Regarding surgical activity, these have increased by 760 surgical interventions, 12.40% more than those registered in 2006. The largest number of operations, a total of 1,928, were performed by the General Surgery service, followed by the Gynecology and Obstetrics service with 1,457, Traumatology with 1,028 interventions, 860 in Dermatology, 634 in Ophthalmology, 612 in Urology and 188 in ENT.

The Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote assisted 1,612 births in 2007, resulting in 1,638 babies being born, of which 840 were boys and 798 girls, an average of 4.42 births per day.

Regarding the hospitalization area in 2007, the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote registered 9,793 admissions, with an average stay of 6 days. A 5.36% increase, in relation to the admissions registered in the same period of the previous year

Regarding the activity in central services, the Hospital carried out 80,942 radiodiagnostic studies last year, a 2.10 percent increase, in relation to the studies registered in the same period of 2006.

The number of emergencies attended in 2007 at the Lanzarote Hospital amounted to 66,925, of which 7,203 required hospitalization, that is, 10.76% of those emergencies. This activity in the emergency area has meant an increase of 4.74 percent compared to 2006.
