The murga of Los Intoxicados commits to not performing the controversial song again

"The members of the Murga de "Los Intoxicados" publicly acknowledge that "the lyrics of the aforementioned song are offensive to many people, especially those who, coming from other countries, live and work in Lanzarote, have created families and are fully integrated into the conejera society". This is how the group has expressed itself, having sent a press release with which they want to offer public apologies and extinguish the controversy.

After acknowledging the consequences, "Los Intoxicados" have committed to not performing this song again during the Arrecife Carnival, "nor in any other organized in the different carnivals held in Lanzarote". With this response, they want to give an "example of respect", in the same way that they also requested respect in the messages that viewers send to local television stations. "We, the murgueros, are obliged to compose our songs with a sense of humor, with irony and with respect for people and institutions, so we reiterate our request for apology", they maintain in the statement.

The controversy stemmed from the participation of "Los Intoxicados" on the first day of the XX Murgas Contest, when in one of the stanzas they alluded to the immigrant community with compromising phrases that were described as "racist and xenophobic" by the Socialist Party.

"Los Intoxicados" hope, with this rectification, that this "unpleasant incident does not tarnish the Carnival" and that all the carnival-goers of Lanzarote continue to "feel proud of the festivities".
