The sub-delegate of the Government in the province of Las Palmas, Teresa Mayans, reported this Wednesday that the occupants of five of the boats that were rescued in recent hours in waters near Lanzarote, will be distributed in various centers during the day.

Mayans has admitted, after observing a minute of silence in front of the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for the latest sexist murders, that with the arrival of 442 migrants to Lanzarote, the reception system on the island "has been stressed", but that "it is working well" and the relevant referrals are taking place.

In that sense, the sub-delegate of the Government in Las Palmas has explained that Migrations will refer the occupants of five of the inflatable boats that arrived between Tuesday and Wednesday to Lanzarote to the centers of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura this Wednesday afternoon, thanking "the great effort" of the ministerial department.

In the last hours, a total of nine boats have been rescued in waters near Lanzarote and transferred to the port of Naos, in Arrecife, with 442 people on board, including about fifty minors and a baby.

Three of these people needed to be transferred to hospitals, but the rest were in good health.

The sub-delegate of the Government in Las Palmas has thanked the work of the National Police in the Temporary Foreigner Attention Centers (CATE), facilities in which they can only remain for a maximum of 72 hours, since they have managed to refer them promptly, remaining "only a few hours" in them.

"It is true that we have suffered great stress but we have been able to respond to it," concluded Teresa Mayans.
