The Mercedes Medina Díaz Association awards scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year

In this edition, 12 Scholarships were announced with a general nature, endowed with an amount of 2,700 euros, payable in 9 installments of 300 euros per month

The Sociedad Democracia de Arrecife hosted the Mercedes Medina Díaz 2022 - 2023 Scholarship award ceremony. An event attended by family, friends, members of the Association, representatives of collaborating companies and foundations, authorities, members of the educational field and the Association.

The scholarships are aimed at university students studying at Spanish public universities, leading to obtaining a degree, taking into account good academic performance and economic criteria. In this edition, 12 Scholarships were announced with a general nature, endowed with an amount of 2,700 euros, payable in 9 installments of 300 euros per month, starting on August 30 with the delivery of the first check.

The event began with a projection of what the scholarships mean, from the moment of their presentation at the Testeina Estate. The scholarship students attended, with the exception of two scholarship recipients who are already at their respective universities, who participated in an emotional event and sent their thanks for the support, backing and trust throughout their studies, as the Association does not simply provide an economic amount, but is in permanent contact and pending, accompanying them throughout the process.

The event was opened by the president of the Association, Juan Cruz Sepúlveda, who proceeded to name the students to deliver the first monthly payment by check. Maura Mercedes Palarea Medina then spoke, expressing her "most sincere desire to make the entity a useful instrument at the service of the community", to which she addressed directly to make it part of the Association's activities, directly expressing "her desire that any person or institution that wishes to be aware that the Association is always open to collaboration".

Selena del Carmen Pérez Curbelo, Isabel Cámara Hernández, Álvaro Hernández Morán, María Aisha Maneh Lira, María Cathaysa Umpiérrez Bustos, Joel Reyes Toledo, Patricia Déniz de León, Gabriela Benavidez Rojas, Óscar David Torres Curbelo, Yussef Martín Mohamed, Sofía Betancort Suárez and Claudia Sánchez Mesa were the winners this edition.

Yé Cabrera Morales spoke on behalf of the sponsoring entities, doing so again. And the event was closed by the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo Berriel, who addressed the students saying that "they are the talent of this island, never forget where they come from, congratulations to the companies, representatives and authorities present from the City Councils of Arrecife, Tías, Yaiza and San Bartolomé".

The event was supported by the Councilor for Education of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Myriam Barros Grosso, the Councilor for Culture of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Alberto Aguiar Lasso, the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, and councilors from the municipalities of Arrecife, San Bartolomé, Tías and Yaiza.

From the association they explain that the MMD Scholarships are supported by the Association's own funds, with the altruistic contribution of Mercedes Palarea Medina, honorary president, founder, member and main patron who contributes five scholarships, in addition to private donations and the invaluable economic support of Business Groups and foundations committed to society such as TABA CONTROL, Bodegas Vega de Yuco, CICAR, Supermercados Marcial, Fundación Líneas Romero, SPL and Fundación Canaria Martínez Hermanos, to whom the Association thanks for their generosity.
