"The Heroes of Órzola" and memorialists Jesús Perdomo and Óscar Torres will receive the Haría 2021 Award, according to the mayor, Chaxiraxi Niz, on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero. The designation was unanimously approved in the plenary session held last Friday, June 11.

Niz stressed how "deserved" these awards are. "What can we say about those nine men who risked their lives without thinking of anything other than saving the lives of the people who came to our coast," he said in reference to Rubén Lemes, Marcial Armas, Iván Curbelo, Marcial Curbelo, Jessey Ramírez, Juan Jesús de León, Armando Tabío, Ignacio Fontes and Aithami Reyes, who helped save the lives of 28 people after the shipwreck of a boat off the coast of Lanzarote.

In addition, the mayor has stated that she extends this recognition to all the people who were there and especially to the two local police officers and the two civil guards.

Regarding Óscar Torres and Jesús Perdomo, Niz stated that these two people "have given our municipality our history in a digital archive".
