The César Manrique Foundation has organized a tribute to the artist Stipo Pranyko, on the occasion of the inauguration of his exhibition on April 12 at the Tenerife Espacio de las Artas (TEA) and the transfer of his residence to Munich (Germany), after having resided in Lanzarote for more than 20 years. The event will take place this Thursday, at 8:30 p.m., in the José Saramago Room of La Plazuela, in Arrecife.
The event will be attended by Stipo Pranyko himself (Jajce, Bosnia, 1930), who belongs to the payroll of displaced Yugoslav culture, which emerged after the Second World War. His vital nomadism has led him to develop his artistic work in Rovinj (Istria), Galliate (Milan), Freiburg
(Germany), Chalampé (Alsace) and Lanzarote (Canary Islands).
With this tribute, the César Manrique Foundation wants to pay tribute to him and celebrate his vital journey on this island, to which he has been linked since 1989, the year in which he bought his house in Tahíche to transform it from a ruin into his new home. Stipo personally built and designed his residence, turning it into a "work in progress" that was prolonged over time.
He used poor materials and gave a relevant role to light, captured and conducted through numerous carefully designed and manually worked windows.
Stipo Pranyko has exhibited his work in galleries and art halls in Italy, Croatia, Germany and France. In Spain, among other places, Stipo Pranyko's plastic work has been shown in the halls of the FCM, in a retrospective curated by Kevin Power in 1999; at the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM), in 2004, with Fernando Gómez Aguilera as curator; and now, in 2012, at Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (TEA), with Isidro Hernández as curator.
Documentary and round table
During the tribute event, there will be a screening of the documentary "Stipo Pranyko with white paintings" (2012) by director David Delgado San Ginés, which is part of the audiovisual triptych "Variaciones Pranyko," a production that is completed with two other short pieces: "Light in the spaces" and "Stipo, Stefano, Esteban" (Essay of a nomadic dialogue). This project was awarded the Special Mention of the Jury of the Canarian Forum at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival 2012.
Next, there will be a round table with the participation of Isidro Hernández (curator of the TEA), Melchor López (poet), David Delgado San Ginés (film director), and the director of the FCM, Fernando Gómez Aguilera. The event will close with a speech by Stipo Pranyko.
