The gastronomic world of Lanzarote mourns the death of the cook Mario Rodríguez Medina, who died unexpectedly at the age of 50 during the early hours of last Saturday.
This passionate cook began his career in the gastronomic industry at an early age and quickly made a name for himself. The chef was for years in charge of the well-known Los Isleños restaurant, located behind the bus station of the Rambla Medular in Arrecife. At that time, he consolidated his restoration project and started in the world of catering.
"His dishes were true masterpieces that delighted the most demanding palates, and his ability to combine flavors and textures was simply exceptional," his colleagues now recall.
During his career, Mario Rodríguez captained the kitchens of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. In addition, his latest project was focused on the Finca el Trillo, on the road that connects Playa Honda with Güime, where it has been consolidated as an estate for events.
"The culinary world is in mourning this week, as it mourns the loss of one of its most outstanding talents and especially of an exceptional person," his friends say.
His death has dismayed both his family and acquaintances as well as his professional colleagues who admired his cuisine and remember "his kindness, humility and generosity."
However, beyond his talent in the kitchen, Mario was known among his own for his "human warmth and his unwavering ethics. Always willing to help others, it was not uncommon to see him collaborating in charitable works or teaching young aspiring chefs. His passion for gastronomy was matched only by his desire to make the world a better place," they add.
Throughout his career, this Lanzarote cook received numerous recognitions and awards for his work. However, his family and friends argue that for him the most important thing was not fame or personal success, but the happiness and satisfaction that he could provide through his culinary creations. He was always proud to see smiles on the faces of those who tasted his dishes.
In addition to his culinary legacy, Mario leaves a void in the gastronomic community. His professional colleagues describe him as a "loyal friend and a dedicated mentor."
Faced with the pain of the loss, the culinary world unites to celebrate Mario's legacy and his life. "His spirit will endure in every kitchen where his recipes are prepared with love and dedication. His impact will transcend the barriers of the profession, reminding us all of the importance of being kind, generous and passionate in everything we do," they added.
"On behalf of the gastronomic community and all those who had the privilege of knowing him, we express our most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Mario Rodríguez. His loss is incalculable, but his memory will live eternally in our hearts and in the culinary world that he loved so much."
This Wednesday afternoon in the church of San Bartolomé will be his funeral at 18:00 in the afternoon in the presence of his ashes.
