If you don't want soup, you get two cups. The citizens of Arrecife, in addition to enduring the days of dense haze, also have to literally swallow the uncontrolled dust clouds emitted by a large number of construction sites that are being carried out in the capital. As in the case of suspended dust coming from the Sahara, construction entrepreneurs cannot blame divine nature for the clouds of dust that residents find in their path. It is clear that those responsible for the works are not taking the necessary precautions, such as watering the ground before removing it with mechanical shovels.

Citizen complaints reached Radio Lanzarote and through it to the political leaders of the City Council. Yesterday, the acting mayor and Councilor for Urban Planning of the City Council, Nuria Cabrera, upon hearing one of the many complaints made public on the Buenos Días Lanzarote program, went to the site indicated by a resident of the Los Geranios neighborhood and verified in situ that she was not lying.

The least of it is that the dirt reaches the terraces of the houses, the car or clothes get dirty, the major problem is the health problems that the dust cloud can cause or accentuate, especially in people with a history of respiratory diseases. The councilor promised that she would immediately send the Urban Planning Discipline Police and that from now on there would be more control and sanctions for those who do not comply with the regulations. Likewise, the Councilor for Works, Luis Morales, despite the fact that the problem is not his responsibility, reported that the City Council is always willing to listen to complaints in order to take corrective measures.

Even if it doesn't seem like it, it affects

Strong winds accompanied by dust clouds, sudden changes in temperature and poor handling of drinking water along with a lack of personal hygiene, cause diseases such as pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis and even diarrhea to spread, to the misfortune of many, with surprising speed.

Pneumonia, bronchitis and tonsillitis are grouped within the group called acute respiratory infections. However, it is the first disease that can cause the most damage to those who suffer from it. Pneumonia is an infection of the lower respiratory tract (lungs) caused by different microbes or germs, and can also be triggered by a poorly treated flu or cold. These microbes can be perfectly transported to the human body by the dust clouds in question. The symptoms are fever, fatigue, pain in the right side mainly, dry cough and secretions.

For its part, bronchitis is also an infection of the lower respiratory tract, but in this case the bronchi are affected. It is caused by microbes similar to pneumonia. And tonsillitis is an infection of the lower airways (tonsils). These become inflamed, producing a whitish or purulent secretion. And it is produced by viruses or bacteria. In such a way that, in principle, it may sound exaggerated that removing the earth causes these diseases, but it has been proven that uncontrolled practices affect human health.
