The Cabildo of Lanzarote celebrated this Monday afternoon the International LGTBI Pride Day. The institutional act began at 6:00 p.m. and on this day the Island Institution hung rainbow flags and trans pride flags in front of its main facade, hosted the reading of several manifestos by the LGTBI groups of the Island and, finally, illuminated said facade with the colors of the rainbow throughout the night.

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Isabel Martín, highlighted this day as "a new opportunity to recognize the rights of this group, to show Lanzarote's support for all people, regardless of their sexual condition or gender identity, and to stop once and for all the discrimination, hatred and aggression that, unfortunately, continue to occur today."

Martín also insisted that defending equality and respect for human rights "is everyone's task" and expressed her "absolute rejection of European policies that promote intolerance and censor these groups."

"There is still much to be done in politics but, from the Cabildo, we give our support to all those actions that seek to promote equality, and especially those aimed at fighting stereotypes and improving social acceptance of LGTBI people," added the councilor.

Also, the Association of families of Trans minors Chrysallis, the LGTB group LanzaEntiende and the Association Lánzate LGTBI+ intervened in the act to read their manifesto, joining the Institutional Declaration to show their support for the groups and causes they defend on this LGTBI Pride Day, to ask for respect and equality for all people and the union of public administrations to facilitate the labor and social integration of a group often discriminated against because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
