Preventing the danger of some of the components of small electrical and electronic appliances (PAE), preventing them from ending up contaminating the sea, the soil or buried in the landfill, and promoting their recycling, since they contain thousands of recyclable components, is the objective of the new campaign launched by the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the OfiRAEE* platform to promote the recycling of small appliances.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, and the councilor of Waste, Carmen Rosa Márquez, have announced this Monday the new campaign that promotes and coordinates 'Lanzarote Recicla' and the new collection containers for these disused appliances, which will be available to all citizens in more than 60 locations, mainly located in public buildings in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

In this new edition of the campaign, the Cabildo of Lanzarote plans to include appliance stores as collaborators, with the installation of new recycling points in the stores.

Likewise, through the educational project 'Recicole', which also promotes the Waste Area, the centers and the educational community will also join the initiative, making available the container boxes in their educational facilities so that the youngest and young people can also become familiar with the selective separation of these waste.

A recycling network that started operating more than a year ago

"The recycling network of small appliances began to operate more than a year ago, with a great reception and participation by the Lanzarote society, which in this way has nearby and accessible points where to deposit their small appliances, once they have reached the end of their useful life", they explained in the press conference.

Thus, with the separation in this recycling network, they informed that "all these appliances arrive at specific recycling plants of Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), so that their most harmful elements can be decontaminated and a large amount of materials such as metals, plastics, circuits, cables and glass, among others, can be used and recycled for the manufacture of new products".

All the recycling points of small appliances on the island of Lanzarote can be consulted on the Lanzarote Recicla website. The campaign has the participation of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the 8 SIG belonging to OFIRAEE and the collaboration of the seven town halls of the island.
