The ashes of Manuel Jordán Martinón, who passed away last February 24 at the age of 86, have rested since August 20 on his island, in the Caldera de Alegranza. About 30 family members paid him an emotional tribute by traveling to Alegranza to say goodbye for the last time.
The family decided to wait to bury the urn with Manuel Jordán's ashes so that all members would be present. "My children are studying in the peninsula and most of my cousins live in Tenerife. August was a date when we could all get together," explains Manolo Jordán de Quintana, son of the deceased.
This group of relatives departed from the house they have on the Islote de Alegranza and traveled the road that leads to the Caldera. There, about 12 people went down to the bottom of it, which is 296 meters high, to bury the ashes.
"Children, grandchildren and nephews arrived below in a very emotional act. Meanwhile, a friend of my father read some prayers from the top of the Caldera", relates Jordán de Quintana. The relatives traveled from Órzola to Alegranza in Líneas Romero, which offered this service free of charge.
Jordán de Quintana explains that this Islote was bought by his grandfather and when he died his three children inherited it, two of whom have already died. Therefore, currently there is only one owner, a living direct heir, Eduardo Jordán, who is over 80 years old. In the future, the Islote will pass to the third generation, to all the grandchildren of the man who bought Alegranza.
