The new Arrecife tourist mini-train has premiered this Saturday
after being presented to the media. The capital's Mayor was present at the event,
Cándido Reguera and the Councilor for
Tourism, Ángela Hernández, in addition to the directors of the company Yurerosa
S.L., awarded the new means of locomotion after winning the contest
publicly announced by the Arrecife City Council with a fee of 24,000
euros during the first year of management.
This mini-train will help promote tourism in Arrecife, one of the
priority challenges of the government group of the City Council of the capital.
"Our goal is that tourists who visit Arrecife can get to know
the main enclaves and places of interest through a new route of
transport that, after touring the Arrecife coastline, will reach the Market
Tourist located in the Theme Park of the capital", says the mayor of
tourism, Ángela Hernández.
In this way, the first users of the mini-train have been the numerous
tourists and residents who were in the Tourist Market, located
in the Theme Park, and have been able to travel, free of charge,
practically the entire coast of Arrecife, passing through the Playa del
Reducto, the José Ramírez Cerdá Park, the Puente de las Bolas and the Charco
de San Ginés.
Squares and route
The mini train, which is made up of a "locomotive" vehicle and three
more wagons, has 60 seats. Its tourist route begins in the
Juan de Quesada street, meeting point for cruise passengers arriving at
the capital, passing through Vargas, Coll, La Marina streets, Rafael
González Negrín Avenue, Mancomunidad Avenue, Colonel Ildefonso Valls de la
Torre street, José Antonio street, Guenia, Fred Olsen, to return through the roundabout
of the Cabildo de Lanzarote. It is expected that the stops of this mini train will be
located at the intersection of Calle Real with Avenida Mancomunidad and
in the area of the roundabout of the Cabildo de Lanzarote. The mini train will travel
the coast of Arrecife from 08:00 to 20:00 every day, taking a
break at noon.
This motorized tourist train will soon be equipped with a speech and
several television screens that will offer information to tourists and
reaches a maximum speed of 50 kilometers per hour.
Finally, it should be remembered that the tender for the concession of this mini
tourist train a total of seven companies were presented, Prodille
Espectacles S.L., Felice Giordano, New Electric Lanzarote S.L., Attractions
Medina S.L. and Mini Tren Lanzarote S.L., one of them being excluded for not
adjust to the model established in the bases.
The initial authorization for the exploitation of this service is two
years, and may be extended for two more years, "always after agreeing with
the City Council three months before the end of the contract".
