The AMPA of the Costa Teguise school denounces that the ratio per classroom has increased instead of reducing it

Remember that the school was planned for 400 students but there are 710 enrolled and even so the groups have been reduced. "It means 25-26 students for some 45 square meter barracks"

The AMPA Pejerverde of the CEIP of Costa Teguise has denounced that instead of reducing the groups as a security measure against the coronavirus, in this center they are "going to increase" the ratios in the classrooms. "We believe it is unacceptable that in a school that was planned for 400 students there are 710 enrolled and that with those numbers they take away three groups with respect to last year", he points out.

In a statement, the AMPA of this center explains that, after having received "different comments about the possibility that the Ministry of Education would give this CEIP fewer groups than the previous year", they contacted the school's management, who told them that they had been "working since the end of last year with the idea of adapting the school to the problem of the pandemic."

For this reason, they point out that they were working with the possibility that, on the part of the General Directorate of Centers, they would be given "one more group and have 34 instead of 33 that there were in the 2019/2020 course". However, they affirm that "as of today only 30 groups are authorized" in the school, remaining in a ratio "of 25-26" students "for some 45 square meter barracks". "We are talking about the fact that we are going to put 25 children from Infantil together, who do not have the obligation to wear a mask", they criticize from the AMPA, from where they point out that they do not know "what is due to the lack of sensitivity on the part of Education" with respect to this center.

The AMPA Pejeverde recalls that, as it has already denounced on different occasions, the Costa Teguise school is the one with the "highest number of barracks" "in all of the Canary Islands" and that "these barracks do not have the best ventilation measures, since they only have tilt-and-turn windows". It also states that the center has "scarce recreation areas" and that "it also lacks shaded areas."

"We do not understand why those responsible for Education do not demand in Infantil and Primary the minimum interpersonal distance of 1.5 meters between students", adds the AMPA of the CEIP of Costa Teguise, which believes that if said social distancing had to be maintained, in the barracks of the center "not even 20 children would enter."

Warns with "taking measures"

"They keep repeating to us in the different media about the hiring of more teachers to lower the ratios, as well as the hiring of dining room assistants. We only ask for one more group than last year and the assistants that correspond to us for a dining room of almost 500 children. Is it too much to ask?"

The AMPA of the CEIP of Costa Teguise asks "those responsible for Education to reflect on such abuse and to be able to have the 34 groups", thus guaranteeing the "safety" of their children and teachers. And it is that, they consider that "if these 34 groups are not given, the necessary measures for the long-awaited return to school are not guaranteed", being "forced to take the measures" that they consider "necessary."

On the other hand, the AMPA Pejeverde affirms that it is still "impossible" to offer extracurricular activities and late reception "for reasons derived from the current pandemic", but announces that it will "make an effort to offer early reception without assuming any additional cost on the part of the parents."
