The Alisios AMPA of CEIP Playa Honda has made public the "serious situation" that the educational center is going through due to the lack of sufficient infrastructure for the development of educational and extracurricular activities. According to the families, neither the students nor the school community have the minimum spaces necessary to carry out their work in decent conditions.

For months, the AMPA has conveyed its concern to the Education Council of the San Bartolomé City Council, the Island Directorate of Education and the Education Council of the Government of the Canary Islands. However, they claim that they have not obtained any response, despite the urgency of the problem and the direct damage it causes to the students.

Faced with institutional silence, families have been forced to study alternatives on their own, including the acquisition of a prefabricated module whose cost amounts to 8,000 euros. This situation, they point out, reflects an "unacceptable paradox": in a public center, parents must resort to sponsors or crowdfunding campaigns to cover basic needs that, by law, correspond to the Administration.

The AMPA recalls that educational regulations support its claim. The LOE/LOMLOE (Organic Law 2/2006, modified by Law 3/2020) establishes that associations of mothers and fathers must have adequate spaces and material and economic support. In addition, the Canary Islands Education Law (Law 6/2014) and Decree 81/2010 oblige administrations to guarantee sufficient infrastructure and facilitate the organization of extracurricular activities.

"If families have to finance with private money what the Administration must guarantee, there is a legal breach and a violation of the right to a quality public education", they argue.

Therefore, they make an urgent call to the competent institutions to assume their responsibility and provide the center with the necessary resources. At the same time, they ask for the collaboration of companies and individuals to, in case an official response does not arrive, contribute to cover the cost of the module.

"We are not asking for luxuries, just the essentials: a decent place where our sons and daughters can learn, live together and grow", concludes the association of families.
