The 5th Solidarity Gala in favor of Manos Unidas was held this Saturday at the C.S.C. Santiago El Mayor in Tahíche, in which 5,000 euros were raised for this organization. The event began at 8:30 p.m., registering a total full of public, who once again responded to the solidarity call.
The delegate of Manos Unidas in Lanzarote, Miguel Ángel Sosa González, was in charge of presenting the two projects for which a total of 135,000 euros are needed. One of the initiatives consists of opening a school in Congo, the other takes place in India, where the aim is to create a cooperative for girls. According to Sosa, since the campaign began until last Saturday, a total of 116,000 euros had been collected, to which must be added the 5,000 raised at the gala held in Tahíche.
The event, which was very lively, featured the collaboration of the La Caldereta theater group, from the town of Guatiza. Its performers brought to the stage two comic sketches with which they managed to bring a smile to the public, who responded with their applause. The musical part came from Daniel Moisés, a very supportive young man always willing to collaborate for causes like this, who got the public on their feet with his songs and his flair. The children and young people from the parish of Tahíche also participated with two songs.
One of the most striking parts of the gala was the auction of the so-called "Solidarity Blankets", 20 units in total that were handmade by several volunteers, who then donated them to help cover these projects. There was also artisan pastries, a great variety of sweets of which not a single piece was left over. Everything was sold in portions to the attending public, who tasted it with very good appetite. Before the event ended, several gifts donated by several collaborating companies were also raffled.
