The Cabildo de Lanzarote hosted this Wednesday the award ceremony of the photography contest, organized on the occasion of the VI Wine Run Lanzarote & Traditional Cuisine Festival, which was held in the protected landscape of La Geria last June. The first three prizes went to Sven Grossenbacher, Aroa Martínez Sánchez and Miguel Ángel Cárdenas Barbero, with the first, second and third prize, respectively.
The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, was in charge of presenting Sven Grossenbarcher with the first prize for the best photograph taken in the surroundings of La Geria and the sporting event object of this contest. Grossenbacher, in addition to the recognition, has obtained a one-week stay in the Santa Rosa Club apartments and a box of wine with the Vinos de Lanzarote designation of origin.
Aroa Martínez Sánchez, who has achieved the second classification of the photographic contest on the Wine Run, has received from the hand of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Economic Promotion, Francisco Fabelo, two Binter Canarias airline tickets to travel to any of the Islands and also a box of Lanzarote wine.
For his part, Miguel Ángel Cárdenas Barbero, third prize winner, collected the prize from the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, who presented him with a voucher for a dinner for two at the restaurant of the collective "Lanzarote Cocina", "La Cascada del Puerto", together with three other bottles of wine from the island.
Special mentions
The representative of the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Vinos de Lanzarote, Nereida Brito, has given several special mentions, together with the president of the Cabildo and the mayor of Tinajo. These special mentions have gone to Isabelle Janssens de Varebeke, Siboney Tabares King (who has received two awards), Betty Rawson and Ayoze Ojeda Delgado, who have been awarded with a cheese and a travel set, courtesy of the Quesería El Filo del Cuchillo and Lanzaloe, respectively.
The president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, has stated that the objective of the contest was to select the three best photographs, which express "the best way to see and understand this sporting event that has already been consolidated, and the special beauty of the space in which it takes place". For his part, Councilor Francisco Fabelo stressed that the jury "especially valued images that would publicize the beauty of La Geria, related to this sporting activity, highlighting also the effort made by our farmers in the past, with a different and original approach".
These photographs will also be used to promote this space and to complete the ongoing file that the Cabildo de Lanzarote has been working on so that La Geria is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
