The island's kitesurfing world is shocked after the death of Pablo Durán, the young man who died this Sunday after suffering a fall on Famara beach.

Pablo was 32 years old and was from Santander, although he had been living in Lanzarote for a year. "He was a very cheerful and sociable person," says José María, a friend of the deceased.

José María used to go kitesurfing with Pablo but, according to what he said, this Sunday he went later, already finding the ambulance when he arrived at Famara beach. "When I arrived and saw the ambulance, I expected the worst and indeed it was him," he said.

"It's a shame this happened," said Ignacio Herrero, another kitesurfer from the island, who knew Pablo by sight.

Pablo suffered a fall in a rocky area of Famara beach, after being dragged by a gust of wind. "Maybe he got a bad gust, because the truth is that the wind yesterday, and excuse the expression, was a bastard. There are days when the wind is strong but it is noble, but yesterday it was dizzying, it went to one side, to the other..." Herrero pointed out.
