The San Bartolomé City Council has offered a family respite service to a total of 20 users of the 38 beneficiaries of the home help service during the summer months, from July to September, as reported by the Department of Social Welfare, delegated to María Dolores Fernández.

As explained by the City Council, they are working on two lines of action, one of them offering family respite to a total of seven home help users, reinforcing with assistance to the Isla de Los Volcanes Day Center between two and three days a week according to the specific needs of each person.

On the other hand, professionals provide occupational therapy and memory stimulation to a total of 20 users, among other exercises to promote personal autonomy. The professionals go directly to the homes, through the Association of Families of Patients with Alzheimer's and other dementias of Lanzarote (AFA.).

In addition, this project covers the leaves and vacations of the home help staff, with the City Council having a total of six people to perform the services.

The mayor, Alexis Tejera, congratulated the Social Welfare area "for the work it does daily, the technicians in front, and the home help staff for their dedication and work." "With this project, the elderly users of the home help service, from July until the end of September, have numerous activities and services that improve their quality of life while their families have had that much-needed respite," he said.

This project is financed with an amount of 56,166.67 euros by the Government of the Canary Islands, within the general protocol of actions signed between the Ministry of Social Rights, Equality, Diversity and Youth, and the Canary Federation of Municipalities. According to the City Council, it has been done to reinforce the services they provide and favor the implementation of extraordinary actions, framed within the basic social services, aimed at improving the quality of life of the most disadvantaged sectors of the population.
