The Titerroy Neighborhood Association has denounced the increase in robberies in the neighborhood, stating that this week they have tried to rob two homes. Likewise, the neighborhood association has warned of the consumption and sale of drugs and alcohol on the street, requesting the City Council to take action.

"The residents of López de Vega and Tres de Mayo streets are living in hell, where they report the consumption and sale of drugs and alcohol," the association points out, which notes that residents report that "in the morning, when they go to pick up their vehicle to go to work, they find that the tires have been punctured."

In this regard, it adds that in these streets, residents say that "there is a continuous trickle of people consuming drugs and causing a racket without respecting the neighbors." On the other hand, it points out that "they leave the streets full of garbage."

"Citizen insecurity is increasingly noticeable in Arrecife"

On the other hand, the Titerroy Neighborhood Association states that "attempts to rob the homes of elderly people are accumulating." "Throughout this week, they have tried to rob two different homes on two occasions," the group explains, noting that "some residents have been forced to make a great financial effort to equip their homes with alarms, with the need to feel safe and protected."

"Residents say that citizen insecurity is increasingly noticeable in the city of Arrecife," the neighborhood association points out. However, it states that "people no longer report it, because everything is the same." "They don't pay attention, they usually say," points out the Titerroy Neighborhood Association, which insists to residents on the importance of reporting. "Because if there is no report, the criminals will continue to enjoy freedom and cause more damage," it adds.

Lack of agents

On the other hand, the Titerroy Neighborhood Association states that "for many years" the City Council "has not organized talks on citizen security for elderly people in our municipality." "The security of citizens is a primary mission in daily work. The elderly people in our society constitute a group that should be given special protection. The talks are aimed at preventing those criminal acts that are most frequently committed against our elders," the group points out, which considers the adoption of these measures important.

In the opinion of the Titerroy Neighborhood Association, for "many years" the rulers of Arrecife "have not worked and fought to achieve a security system in accordance with the reality of the citizens." "We have come across authorities who have not been willing to do so, since their priorities were others," the group states, criticizing that "they have not been able to increase the number of agents in recent years, despite the fact that there have been and are many demands from different groups denouncing the great lack of personnel."

"Residents fear that the lack of Local Police officers could create a situation that affects the safety of residents and that may be causing fundamental services not to be provided normally," the association adds, noting that residents also ask about the Canary Islands Police, "who are only aware of it when large events are organized on the island of Lanzarote."

In a letter addressed "several days ago" to the City Council, the Titerroy Neighborhood Association asks the institution to adopt the procedures it deems "most appropriate," making itself available to the City Council "to collaborate." It also requests that the City Council send, if it sees fit, a letter to the National Police Corps of Arrecife "so that they are informed" about the situation in the neighborhood.
