A total of 21 specialists from different public hospitals of the Canary Islands Health Service participated in addressing pathologies of the musculoskeletal system.

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation service of the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital hosted a course on echography in the musculoskeletal system last weekend. The day brought together twenty-one specialists from the public hospitals of the Canary Islands Health Service to provide them with a comprehensive space for learning and exchanging knowledge.

The training, given by the specialist in Physical Education and Sports Medicine and director of the International Chair of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound of the Catholic University of Murcia, José Fernando Jiménez Díaz, was organized by the head of the service of the Lanzarote hospital, Ricardo Díaz Polegre, with the collaboration of the Canary Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. 

Ultrasound applied to musculoskeletal injuries

The meeting, focused on ultrasound applied to injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system, included a theoretical part and practical sessions in which participants addressed, in addition to the treatment of different pathologies, more than fifteen clinical cases of patients.

In this way, the applications of sonoelastography in musculoskeletal injuries and in the control of treatments were deepened, as well as the management of elastography in equipment and clinical cases.

The ultrasound diagnosis of tendinopathies, the ultrasound-guided interventional treatment of the same and the management of the most frequent cases of this problem were also addressed.

Ultrasound in adhesive capsulitis, shoulder instability and operated shoulder and the approach and management of these injuries was part of the contents of the meeting.

The manager of the Health Services of the Lanzarote Health Area, Pablo Eguía, welcomed the specialists who attended this course and pointed out the value of the training of professionals around the latest advances in ultrasound. An essential application for the diagnosis and treatment of joint injuries and diseases, and pointed out that this type of meeting results in the improvement of patient care.
