The manager of the Lanzarote Health Services, José Luis Aparicio, presented this Friday the details of the first Sustainability Report of the Management, a document that collects the activity of the health centers of the island, an activity that has increased in most areas.
The results of this report highlight that the Molina Orosa Hospital has increased its activity in Primary Care by 45.52% compared to 2020, since the island's health centers attended a total of 1,960,257 consultations in 2021. If compared to the pre-pandemic period, the growth is 50%, since in 2019, 1,331,878 were carried out.
In addition, it also highlights the data of surgical activity, which grows by 15% compared to 2020, reaching 7,782 operations, compared to 8,995 in 2021. In addition, there were 8,578 hospital admissions in 2021.
"The Management's Quality Unit has been working for months on this extensive document that collects all the relevant information about the institution's activity and the impact it has had on citizens during the last three years, since 2019, before the pandemic, as well as in the most difficult moments of the health crisis of covid-19 and the following months," Aparicio reported.
More nursing consultations, but fewer births
This increase is mainly due to the greater number of nursing consultations, which is almost double in 2021 compared to 2020, and almost 30% more compared to 2019.
With respect to external or specialized consultations at the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, in 2021 a total of 165,798 consultations were recorded compared to 152,867 in 2020, with a significant increase of 8.2%.
The report also includes data on the activity of the delivery room, a department in which during 2021 there has been a slight decrease of 10% in the number of births attended, with 1,036 compared to 1,151 that occurred in 2020.

In the area of Emergencies, there is a 13% growth in the activity of this service, since in 2020, 48,125 patients were treated compared to 54,560 treated in 2021, with an average of 150 patients per day.
To attend to its entire portfolio of services, the Lanzarote Health Services Management has an organic staff made up of 2,577 professionals, of which 73.69% are women and 26.31% men.
It also highlights the growth in the number of workers that has been registered since 2019 to meet the demand generated by the Covid pandemic.
A pioneering document
It should be noted that this document is the first report of these characteristics that is published in the health field of the autonomous community and is born with the vocation of being prepared every two years to maintain the flow of communication with citizens.
"The sustainability report revolves around six fundamental axes: the health and quality of life of the population, the quality of patient care, economic and social development, knowledge management, the development and well-being of professionals and on the axes of environmental care, good governance and responsible management," adds Aparicio.
Finally, it should be noted that it also includes the main commitments that the Management and its professionals have acquired to improve the health activity of Lanzarote. Thus, the commitment to launch innovative initiatives in compliance with the Canary Islands Health Plan and integrate sustainability, humanization, innovation and environmental care in each of the actions is maintained, since the document is part of the commitment of the Zer0 Emissions Health project of the SCS and with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations (UN).
"This report is an exercise in honesty and transparency, a document that we put at the service of citizens so that they know our activity, and that allows us to get closer to users of public health," said the manager.
