The residents of Playa Blanca enjoyed not only a hot and sunny day on Sunday, but also their Daytime Carnival, which featured performances by Pepe Benavente, the El Geito band, and the merengue musicians of Grupo Bomba. After the hustle and bustle of the Drag Gala, the Coso, and the festivities on Friday and Saturday, tourists and residents danced on Sunday to the sound of these musical groups in the town square.

After 1:30 PM, the music of El Geito relieved the hangover from the night before. The Canarian and Caribbean rhythms woke up the people who were looking for shade around the town square, according to the Yaiza City Council. El Geito gave way to Grupo Bomba from Fuerteventura.

The voices and choreography of the young people finished setting the mood in a square that was already full around 3:00 PM. Merengue, cumbia, and songs that hold privileged places on the music charts cheered up the audience. The joy grew until the appearance on stage of Pepe Benavente.

The singer didn't take long to perform his most well-known songs, the ones he just recorded, and he dared to sing 'Ai se eu te pego', a song that is a hit internationally. The popular artist kept the audience up until almost 6:00 PM, when his performance ended, and with it, the program of the Playa Blanca Carnival 2012.

Children's Party

But the carnival Sunday had started from 10:30 AM. The Children's Party brought together children accompanied by parents and family members. The performance of the children's murga Los Gorfinijos and the appearance on stage of Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob, and Minnie, and the animation of the magician José Ángel enlivened the fun. The children sang, danced, and played for at least two hours, but they also went up one by one to the stage to proudly show off their costumes.

The Department of Festivities of the Yaiza City Council has thanked "all the people who participated and worked tirelessly, day and night, so that the residents of the municipality and visitors could spend three carnival days full of joy."
