More than 150 people are trying to stop the eviction of Luis Manuel Torres Guillén from his home in Argana. Five National Police vans and Arrecife Local Police officers appeared in the area around 7:00 a.m., three hours before the scheduled time for this eviction on Palacio Valdés Street.
Neighbors and members of the Platform of People Affected by Mortgages (PAH) intend to stop this eviction and early in the morning they have called on citizens to join this protest in front of the home of Luis Manuel Torres. At about 9:00 a.m., there were about 80 people in the area, but the number at 10:30 a.m. had already increased to 160.
In addition, Andrés Medina, former president of the neighborhood association, has called on the public defender of this man to deliver to the Courts the document by which it was possible to stop the eviction of the elderly couple, formed by Sinforiano Lemes, 90 years old, and Pilar Callero, 87 years old, this Thursday.
The Church had assured months ago that there was an agreement with the company to which it sold these homes by which it had to relocate or compensate them. In the end, this Thursday, the Church found the document and presented it in the Courts, which stopped this eviction.
"Could have an impact beyond the civil field"
The PSOE parliamentarian Manolo Fajardo Palarea, aware of this matter, has welcomed the paralysis of the eviction of the elderly couple, and has assured that the "famous document" of the Bishopric that has appeared "after seven years" gives a "total and absolute turn" to this story. "And not only for these cases, but for those that have already been held. It could have an impact beyond the civil field," said the parliamentarian, who is also a lawyer.
The PAH and Andrés Medina approached the PSOE rally in Valterra this Thursday and handed the socialists the document establishing the agreement between the company that bought the houses and the Church, which sold them. "The vicar says he is surprised to have found it, but the affected people have been more surprised, who thank God that it has appeared before the eviction of the elderly couple," he said on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
