A total of 1,864 works, from students of public and private schools of the eight Canary Islands, have been submitted to the VI edition of the contest 'Paint and Take Care of Your Island', whose deadline has already expired. This contest, organized by the Mercedes Medina Díaz Association and the business group Cabrera Medina CICAR, with the collaboration of the Island Council and the Teacher Center of Lanzarote, takes place under the slogan 'We experiment with science' in this edition.
The organizers of the contest believe that the current school year has come to demonstrate the relevance of science. "The investigations have allowed, in a short period of time, to have vaccines and immunize people, thanks to the collective effort of many workers, mainly from the health area," they point out. They also point out that "it has also been shown that research encompasses all areas of knowledge: engineering, Robotics, Cybernetics, Geology, Pharmacology, Medicine, Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics and Education, of course."
For all these reasons, the Mercedes Medina Association proposed, on this occasion, that the objective of the drawing contest for Primary Education of all students in the Canary Islands was to develop in them curiosity, creativity and awareness of the importance of science.
A jury composed for this purpose, composed of members of the association, CICAR staff and teachers of Early Childhood and Primary Education and the Teacher Center of Lanzarote, will assess the works corresponding to each category and island and next week the decision and delivery of the awards will be announced. These will consist of a tablet for the awarded students, a weekend car voucher for the parents of the winning students and an accreditation diploma for the center to which they belong.
