The Unelco Hall of Multicines Atlántida hosted this Thursday the official opening of the II Meetings FesTVal Lanzarote, a forum that will place the island at the center of the national audiovisual debate until next June 21.

The event was supported by the presence of the Undersecretary of State for Culture, Carmen Páez Soria, as well as institutional representatives, media and professionals from the sector.

During his speech, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the strategic role of the event in the cultural and innovative roadmap of the island. “This festival consolidates Lanzarote's commitment to diversify its economy through culture and the audiovisual industry. We thank all the public administrations and private entities that have supported this project, because we firmly believe that the island can lead spaces where the future of audiovisual is thought, created and projected”, he pointed out.

Artificial intelligence and intellectual property: an immediate challenge

The inauguration was preceded by the round table “Artificial intelligence in the audiovisual world”, where jurists, creators and representatives of the sector debated the legal challenges posed by AI and the need to find a balance between innovation and protection of copyright. The debate made it clear that the coexistence between technology and creativity will be key in the coming years.

Journey to the great stories of television

Next, the director of FesTVal, Joseba Fiestras, offered an endearing and anecdote-filled presentation under the title “Stories of television”. The public relived great successes of the 80s and 90s, script anecdotes and memories of how the wait between television seasons was experienced before with a very different emotion than the current immediacy.

Afternoon program: humor and emotion on the big screen

Meetings FesTVal Lanzarote continues this afternoon at the Atlántida Cinemas with two proposals open to the public:

• 18:00 h · Table “Humor is serious business”

Meeting with scriptwriters and comedians to reflect on the role of humor in current television.

• 19:00 h · Projection “Yo Sostenido”

Documentary by Víctor Elías, focused on the transformative power of music in disability.
