The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital has renewed its accreditation as a Center Committed to Excellence in Care awarded by the Health Care Research Unit of the Carlos III Institute (INVESTEN), the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) and the Spanish Center for Evidence-Based Health Care (CECBE), based on the Best Practices Spotlight Organizations (BPSO) program.
This is the fourth time that Molina Orosa has achieved this international recognition after passing the evaluation carried out every two years by the competent bodies. The main objective of this initiative is to work for excellence in patient care, achieve the highest quality and improve health outcomes.
Molina Orosa joined the BPSO Program, in its first cohort, in 2012, and in 2015 received recognition as a Center Committed to Excellence in Care together with seven other institutions from various autonomous communities, thus becoming the first center in the Canary Islands to obtain this distinction and recognition.
Five implemented guides
The Lanzarote hospital has been progressively implementing good practice guides based on the results of scientific evidence and is currently accredited as a center committed to excellence in five areas: fall prevention care, support for adults awaiting or living with an ostomy and collaborative practice, these three implemented in 2012, and, subsequently, with breastfeeding and vascular access care.
The team responsible for the BPSO project at the hospital, led by Amanda Acosta, continues to promote the implementation of good practice guides and throughout this year plans to incorporate the BPSO-RNAO guide on assessment and care of adults at risk of suicidal ideation and behavior. These guides are the result of research and scientific evidence published to date.
The Director of Nursing of Molina Orosa, Natalia Monzón, points out that this recognition is due, once again, to the work of the entire team of nurses and their commitment to the quality of care. She also especially values the role of the promoters of good practices in the center who have voluntarily accepted the challenge of introducing changes and motivating and supporting the rest of their colleagues to promote the implementation of Good Practice Guides.
The manager of the Lanzarote Health Services, José Luis Aparicio, is pleased with this new accreditation of Molina Orosa, which recognizes and highlights the quality of the daily work of Nursing in patient care based on scientific evidence and the hospital's commitment to the humanization of care focused on people and clinical safety.
The Centers Committed to Excellence in Care initiative is part of the international BPSO program of the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO), which is managed in Spain by the Nursing Research Unit (INVESTEN), which depends on the Carlos III Health Institute and the Spanish Center for Health Care, a Center of Excellence of the Joanna Briggs Institute that promotes the practice of evidence-based care worldwide.
