La Graciosa hosted the presentation of the new volume of the publication of the Canarian Women collection, which includes in each edition the story of 15 women, at least one from each island so that the entire archipelago is represented, incorporating, on this occasion, the Eighth Island, through the figure of the former local mayor, Margarona Páez.

The selection criterion, as explained by Zebenzuí López, representative of LeCanarien Ediciones, is as follows: "relevant women in any area of their personal or professional life and from any era, from the Guanches to the present, including artists, politicians, scientists, athletes, etc. In addition, we combine the best known, such as Mercedes Pinto or Pino Ojeda, with some lesser known, such as the first female lawyer, mayor or referee. The aim of the collection is to make visible the role of Canarian women in the historical development of our Islands, serving as empowerment for new generations."

"In addition, in volumes 2 and 3, trans women have already been included, as another way of claiming not only gender equality, but also sexual diversity and gender identity," he adds.

The new edition collects the achievements of fifteen other pioneering women from the Islands, women who managed to stand out in a society that kept them in the background, although some, as is the case of Margarita Páez, familiarly known as Margarona, did receive some recognition throughout her life.

The councilor delegate in La Graciosa, Alicia Páez, and her colleague Sara Bermúdez, supported the honoree in the presentation of the book and were "very proud that a woman as combative as Margarona is part of the most outstanding women in our history, which will undoubtedly help to value her achievements and understand the role they have played throughout history, also being an example of overcoming for the new generations of the Canary Islands, as this literary project intends with striking illustrations."
