The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government has declared a situation of pre-alert due to wind in Lanzarote and La Graciosa during this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. According to data collected by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, winds of up to 75 kilometers per hour have been recorded, predominantly in inland areas of the island.

Throughout Tuesday, the wind gusts will be from the northeast for most of the day, only varying in some time slots in Tías where north winds may also be experienced. By area, Tías is the municipality on the island that expects the most wind. According to Aemet, this town will record gusts of up to 84 kilometers per hour this morning. Followed by Yaiza, where gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour are expected until noon.
If the prediction is correct, between 11:00 and 12:00 this Tuesday, Teguise will also experience winds of up to 73 kilometers/hour; Haría up to 69; while Tinajo and Arrecife will be around 60 kilometers per hour at most.

Tinajo will be the municipality that suffers the least wind pressure compared to the rest, but it is estimated that it will record a maximum of up to 61 kilometers/hour at 2:00 p.m. and the prediction for the rest of the day is lower than this figure, with a minimum of 38 kilometers per hour at 9:00 p.m.
Recommendations in the face of wind
The Cabildo of Lanzarote has recalled the recommendations in the face of the pre-alert for wind on the island. It is important to keep doors and windows closed to avoid air currents that could lead to the breakage and fall of glass. Remove pots and all objects that may fall to the street from balconies and roofs. Check homes for cornices, balconies and facades in poor condition that may cause falls of debris and rubble; avoid going on excursions or camping until normality is restored, try to postpone road trips and if you do, take extreme precautions. The use of public transport is recommended. Motorcycles and large vehicles that offer a large contact surface with the wind (trucks, vans, vehicles with trailers or caravans) run the risk of overturning in the face of transverse winds.
In addition, avoid walking through gardens or wooded areas, stay away from walls, old houses, scaffolding, illuminated signs, billboards and other structures that may be knocked down by the wind; light poles and power towers are dangerous, so it is better to stay away and in case of risk, notify 1-1-2; in case of risk due to construction cranes, notify 1-1-2 immediately; try to stay away from the coast (beaches, promenades, dock breakwaters, etc.) to avoid being hit or dragged by the action of the waves; drive slowly and carefully in the face of the possible presence of obstacles on the road or gusts of wind that cause you to lose control of your vehicle, especially when overtaking.
In addition, avoid calling by phone, in order to avoid lines collapsing. In case of emergency, do not hesitate to call 1-1-2 or 080. For any request for information, call 0-12.
